Dayal Nitai dasa, Goswami Maharaja’s Belgian disciple, was working in the devotee restaurant at Radhadesh, a beautiful castle transformed into an ISKCON temple in rural Belgium, but his mind was unsettled. He was considering changing his work and possibly his asrama as well. At that time Goswami Maharaja was visiting Bhaktivedanta Manor, the temple in England donated by George Harrison of the Beatles. Dayal Nitai decided to visit his spiritual master along with his Godbrother Devaprastha dasa to get some advice and guidance.

They went to present the whole matter before Goswami Maharaja. Dayal Nitai was seeking his blessings to change his service and maybe to get engaged to a certain bhaktin. However, Goswami Maharaja was not at all in favor of him marrying her, because there were some complications. Then, realizing that Dayal Nitai wanted to change his service as well, Goswami said, “Why don’t you join our mission in China? I think you’ll do fine there. You seem to have some of the same spirit and frame of mind as your Godbrother Ekacakra dasa. You will do well there together! If you try to absorb yourself and surrender to the instruction of your guru, you may not have to go through the experience of marriage.”

Dayal Nitai wanted to think it over, as the idea was unexpected and was somewhat overwhelming to consider all of a sudden. Dayal Nitai went to the next room and consulted with Devaprastha dasa, Visvambhara dasa from England, and another married disciple. They all encouraged him to take up the instruction of the guru to go to China. When Goswami came out of his room and saw the devotees huddled together, he smiled, “Look at this… three grhasthas are trying to convince this bhakta to remain a brahmacari!”

Ultimately, after some contemplation, Dayal Nitai embraced the instructions of his spiritual master, and three months later he left for China.
